MaRS client Bering Media appoints new CEO and VP of Engineering

Three-year-old company adds management depth and experience to position itself for maximum growth

Toronto, January 18, 2011 – MaRS client Bering Media is pleased to announce the appointment of Steven McCartney as President & CEO and Abe Wagner as VP of Engineering.

McCartney will lead the location-based advertising company through a period of accelerated growth, driving continued innovation and building on the Company’s early market successes. In addition, Bering Media co-founder Michael Ho will assume the role of VP of Business Development and will concentrate his efforts on partnerships, product innovation and strategic initiatives.

Founded in 2008, Bering Media’s technology brings real-world targeting capabilities to the online advertising industry. Through an industry leading double blind privacy architecture, Bering Media allows the ISPs and media platforms to collaborate in order to deliver zip+4 targeted ads, without the need to disclose zip+4 information.

“Over the last two years, our technology has received tremendous support from privacy advocates, ISPs and advertisers,” said Michael Ho. “We’re thrilled to add such experienced executives to the team as we scale the business.”

McCartney brings an impressive track record with high growth technology companies. Recently, as President and CEO of Atria Networks, he led the company through a rapid expansion, including multiple acquisitions, while sustaining the company’s profitability at every stage. Atria Networks was later sold to Rogers in 2010 for $425 million.

The move for McCartney is exactly what he’s been looking for. “I couldn’t be happier. Bering is an energized company with great technology and best of all, I get to work with some very smart and motivated people.”
