Ubiquity Solar

Ubiquity is a manufacturer of III-V thin-film solar PV for space applications, ideal for the low earth orbit satellites market. Ubiquity is also in silicon PV with a plan to re-shore to the U.S. critical manufacturing of silicon ingots, wafers and cells, for space and terrestrial markets. Ubiquity plans to combine these technologies into a tandem cell. Ubiquity shipped III-V test samples to several customers with the potential to become strategic investors. Ubiquity is working with its partner, Fraunhofer ISE, to supply beta products to a couple of large potential customers.

In 2023, Evoco added Liz Rogers, VP of Sustainable Product at Nike, to its board of directors. In 2024, Evoco will launch a new plant-based leather alternative and was recognized by CIX and Elevate as a Top 10 Growth Company for investors.

BluWave-ai closed its $9.5 million Series-A round in December 2022, doubled its patent portfolio to 26 in 2023, has customers in Dubai, Japan, Delhi, PEI, launched EV EVerywhere in Ottawa and has a signed MoU to manage Tata Power Delhi’s 8000 eBuses.

TransPod is developing a new mode of ultra-high-speed, sustainable transportation, commonly known as hyperloop. The company recently unveiled a 1/3 scale prototype, which is now located at its Toronto office and can be visited by prospective investors. TransPod is now working on a larger-scale prototype/test track so that it can prove the technology at higher speeds.

WILL, a private Canadian B Corp, focuses on reducing GHG emissions and operates in carbon markets through its Sustainable Community projects in Quebec and Ontario. Its business model emphasizes democratizing access to carbon credits via pooling local SME, municipal, and nonprofit GHG reduction projects, aiming to maximize returns from carbon credit sales to fund these initiatives.  Will enlisted hundreds of organizations into two Sustainable Communities, accrediting over 2,500 GHG reduction projects, achieving 9 million tons of GHG cuts, selling 1 million tons and returning $3.8 million to SMEs. With $2.5 million invested in traceability tech, its revenue has surged nearly tenfold since 2021.

AirMatrix

AirMatrix is a software company deploying digital infrastructure for governments and enterprises. By mapping out complex airspace to enable compliant autonomous operations (while also mitigating against nefarious drone activity), the company provides civil governments a revenue-generating economic engine via fees and fines. AirMatrix recently signed a letter from the Ukraine Ministry of Defense requesting AirMatrix deploy in Ukraine (worth $5 milion) and deployed with the Florida Department of Corrections, a $1.8M ARR deal expanding to $7 million to $8 million over the next two years.

The company’s proprietary technology can be utilized in the development phase of large wind projects, or in the optimization of existing assets to de-risk large capital expenditures and optimize revenue generation. Biome has completed third-party field validation of its FeatherEdge technology with a paying customer. Results show conclusively that the technology is the new market-leader, with various additional value-propositions. Commercial expansion is underway.

It uses patented sensors that incorporate multiple wireless technologies, a fully scalable wireless network and a full suite of software to monitor parking stall occupancy on streets, surface lots and parking garages to transmit real-time location and navigation data to drivers. The solution also provides the analytics required for parking managers to set effective parking and curb policies. eleven-x has achieved 2x year over year revenue growth and its parking system is being used by over 20 municipal and post-secondary customers across the US and Canada.

Exterra Carbon Solutions

Exterra has developed a surface alternative to large-scale underground CO2 storage, leveraging mineral waste. Its technology, a novel configuration of mature equipment, is capable of producing reactive oxides and battery metals from waste with a low carbon footprint. The oxides are combined with captured CO2 to form stable carbonates. Exterra launched its pilot operation at the 300tCO2/yr scale, began engineering on its 500ktCO2/yr commercial plant, secured 130 million tonnes of feedstock (~50 million tCO2 storage), completed its Verra methodology, and signed several partnerships.

FTEX is the only company in the world that has successfully certified a gallium nitride powered inverter, delivering more power and range. FTEX has also closed contracts with the most important brands and OEMs in the industry, delivering $1.5 million in 2024.

In 2023, Heartee increased revenue by 586 percent while increasing production capacity by 400 percent with the same team. Heartee is approved for a nationwide rollout with the country’s largest retail chains and will infiltrate the U.S. market.

Inmotive

Inmotive is on a mission to commercialize the world’s most efficient transmission for electric vehicles, with the goal of dramatically reducing the cost of EV batteries and motors. Inmotive is not a manufacturer, but rather its business model is to license to automotive firms. The company has a production-intent development agreement with Suzuki for their cars and over 30 patents. To date, Inmotive has signed the second phase of its Suzuki development agreement, has generated more than $5 million in revenue in 2023, and is EBIDTA positive in 2023. The company also hired a VP of Engineering, with over 30 years of leadership experience, including at Ford. The company’s transmission is also working perfectly in its demonstration vehicle.

Mosaic Manufacturing is a digital manufacturing company that is disrupting global supply chains through the creation of product delivery systems. The company has developed an on-demand, green, localized 3D printing manufacturing solution that is scalable and economical on a per part basis. Its manufacturing system allows companies to onshore their polymer part supply chain and make them more resilient, flexible, and environmentally friendly. Mosaic has recently shipped its first production system, collecting the first USD $3.5 million in revenue on over USD $50 million of closed contracts.

Novamera

Novamera develops technologies for surgical mining, helping companies meet critical metal demand and  unlock economic value from stranded mineral resources and deposits that are otherwise not economically viable or environmentally friendly due to traditional mining methods. Novamera recently signed three customers and will be in the field starting in Q2. It is negotiating a proposal with a fourth customer for late 2024. Novamera is in the diligence phase with a major mining OEM for a commercial deal and investment.

It has applications in energy transition, disaster resilience, population health, transportation and sustainability investments. Diverse stakeholders access RUNWITHIT’s Synthetic Twins for future-focused, data-informed decision support. The company worked on several projects in 2023, including with Tennessee Valley Authority, Electric Power Research Institute, Nashville Electric Service, Pacific Northwest National Labs, and initiating the first RWI REAL (Regional Advanced Lab) with 14 subscribers ($1 million Rev).

Tersa is a biotech company developing novel microbiological technologies to remediate the harmful environmental externalities of conventional hard-rock mining. Tersa’s solution utilizes advanced synthetic biology, microbial fuel cell technology, and a MICP process to recover wasted metals while neutralizing and detoxifying waste water streams. Tersa is currently fabricating a field trial unit, which will advance its TersaClean system from TRL-5 to TRL-7 in 2025. The company is also preparing for field trials internationally, while fortifying its synthetic biology IP portfolio.

Aruna Revolution

Aruna has developed a 100 percent compostable menstrual pad that is affordable, inclusive and environmentally friendly. The company harnesses natural fibers extracted from local food and crop waste and uses a novel process and technology to turn it into a pad that is manufactured and distributed locally. Aruna has increased the waitlist to more than 500 clients, with eight recurring order LOIs. Aruna has recently opened a 6,000-sq. ft. pilot facility in Halifax, N.S., with an initial 50,000 pad production run to meet LOI needs, following anticipated product launch.

Based on foundational research from the Dartmouth Ice Lab, this solution pulses power to control the penetration depth. Recently, a development partnership with DENSO was publicly announced. Also, an automotive OEM tested this solution and developed integration to adopt on the entire EV platform and a truck OEM evaluated adoption on multiple platforms.

Recent milestones include being venture-backed with over $500,000 in non-dilutive funding, and landing four design partners. At NVIDIA GTC, the company announced synthetic data and digital twins, aiming to redefine industry standards with AI-driven, cost-effective and sustainable agricultural solutions.

CERT Systems

CERT Systems is a carbontech company that is transforming the way the world’s most-important chemicals are made. Using a process called CO2 electrolysis, carbon dioxide emissions are converted into sustainable chemicals and fuels. This enables electrification and decarbonization of chemical manufacturing for a wide variety of value chains. CERT Systems is backed by Breakthrough Energy and has recently demonstrated a process to directly convert atmospheric carbon dioxide into ethylene, the most widely used petrochemical. CERT was a finalist in the Carbon XPRIZE competition.

EVII Mission Hills offers a land parcel and public EV charging service. Its charging site in the Los Angeles area will feature 15 dual-plug 320kW hyper-fast DC chargers from EV Initiative for a total of 30 charging plugs when it opens in Q4 2025, making it one of the largest public EV charging locations in the L.A. area. Recent milestones include a land acquisition in San Fernando, a form-ID submission to SEC for REG CF and Reg D investors. In addition, Coffman engineers are engaged to be on record and start design, and the company has also begun engagement with LADWP.

Gaia Refinery

Gaia Refinery is a Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) company that fits alongside current bio-industrial processes (ethanol, forestry, agriculture) to lower atmospheric CO2 levels. The company’s technology runs at a tenth of the energy requirements of other DAC companies and directly lowers CI (carbon intensity) levels, introducing CDR as an efficient and essential co-process. Gaia Refinery is on target to close three pre-purchase agreements this year. The FEED work for the pilot build is progressing and building will commence in Q2. The company was awarded the Foresight 50 Cleantech Award – most investable cleantech company.

Halion is in joint development with one of the world’s largest glass manufacturers to pioneer the future of digital glass, starting with electronically tinting glass. Halion’s technology enables faster switching, easy installation and custom colours at half the cost. Halion’s technology improves the energy efficiency of vehicles by 10 percent and buildings by up to 40 percent. Halion is working towards a U.S.$15 million. LOI with one of the world’s largest glass manufacturers and is raising funds to match a grant to support this work.

Solaires’ most notable awards include Clean50, Canadian Business (category of Best Green Energy Innovator) and CIX Top 20 Early companies.

Circulr Inc.

Circulr has created a way for fast-moving consumer goods producers to easily reuse packaging in the grocery space. When joining the reuse platform, producers and retailers have access to collection technology, data backend and reuse capabilities. This platform makes it financially attractive for producers to implement reuse systems. Circulr collects and sanitizes used packaging for its 27 producer clients through its 29 retail collection sites, which have reused over 25,000 pieces of packaging in 2023 alone. Circulr has a LOI with a major producer for 2025.

Hydravent Systems has innovated the ubiquitous floor register/louver to make it automated and smart.  Establishing a significant competitive advantage through the application of Bluetooth mesh technology as a protocol, this allows homeowners to cost effectively manage forced air systems and mitigate GHG consumption. Hydravent Systems recently completed MVP prototype through the FedDev SONAMI Fund. Other milestones include filing for Stage II of Elevate IP Program for a new patent.

Recently, Scient raised more than $700,000 in non-dilutive funding, signed and completed four paid contracts valued at $140,000 and conducted 100 customer discovery interviews.

SmogStop Barrier is a highway pollution barrier that lets local residents breathe easier. Its technology cuts traffic emissions in half, while breaking down the key pollutants that create regional smog and impact climate change. SmogStop is the only government-approved pollution barrier worldwide. Its licensing agreement was executed with the largest noise barrier company in North America. Additional agreements are in place in the U.K. and Netherlands, as well as two projects committed by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Suppli has set up the digital and physical infrastructure to run the end-to-end system across Toronto for Canada-wide apps like hungerhub, and global partners like Uber Eats, and is now seeing an average monthly growth rate in orders of ~30 percent.
